Causes Of CCD
CCD has been affecting commercial hives since 2006. As an example, beekeeper David Hackenberg, who has numerous apiaries in Pennsylvania and Florida in which he sends his hives all over to pollinate, was the first of many beekeepers to report that his bees were missing. Before we explain to you the numerous causes of Colony Collapse Disorder, we will like to explain the differences between collapsing colonies and collapsed colonies. Collapsed colonies have complete absence of adult bees in the colonies with few or no dead bees in or around the colonies.
Collapsing colonies have an insufficient number of bees to maintain the amount of brood in the colonies. The workforce of bees is composed largely of younger adult bees when the queen is present.
Now there are many possible causes of Colony Collapse Disorder and there are some that are still unknown. A new parasite or pathogen may be attacking honey bees. One possible candidate being looked at is a pathogenic gut microbe called Nosema. Some viruses such as IAPV which is the Isaraeli Acute Paralysis Virus.
Stress is another factor that weakens colonies leading to the collapse of them. Stress, compromises the immune system of bees and may disrupt their social system, making colonies more susceptible to disease.
Other Leading Causes Of CCD
1. Cell Phone Radiation
2. Insecticides
3. Pesticides
4. Environmental Stress
5. Varroa Mites
6. Tracheal Mites
